Babae, Walay Pahulay / Woman, No Rest

Poetry by | March 9, 2008

Gikapoy ang katre
ug ang iyang paa nilupad
subay sa paghapak
sa akong lubot sa iyang nawong.
Nihilak siya samong kabug-aton
ug ni-ungol sama sa hangin
sa mga kahoy.
“Kanus-a pa siya muundang?”
ang iyang hung-hung kanako.
Niuga ang akong tutunlan
sa tubag mao nilangoy
siya sa iyang mga damgo
uban sa akong bana.
Nihaguk sila.
Samtang ako, wala nay ginhawa,
ang kabuntagong abog
nihalok sa akong panit
ug ang aso
sa akong pagod nga nilung-ag.

Translation
The bed is tired
and her legs fly
in the rhythm of my butt
slammed against her face.
She cries with our weight
and moans like the wind in trees.
“When will he stop?”
she whispers to me.
My throat dries up
for an answer
and so she swims
in her dreams
with my husband.
They snore.
While I am out of breath,
the morning dust
kisses my skin
and the smoke
my overcooked rice.
